Badwater, the lowest point
The shot I took looks to the northwest. The terrain throughout Death Valley, and especially in Badwater appears otherworldly. NASA astronaut training for the Apollo program, for example, took place at various locations in Death Valley. Badwater is located in the southern section of Death Valley. Gold and mineral mining are the foundations of Death Valley’s history.
The heat in summer can be lethal. Hiking at or below sea level challenges performance expectations and overall endurance. Water is gold in this environment.
